The Bookmarkleterator
Official Bookmarklet Generator of the New Millennium
Instructions
The Bookmarkleterator lets you generate custom bookmarklets to automate
common edit screen tasks. You can choose any combination of the above
options, then click 'Generate Bookmarklet' to generate a custom bookmarklet
that will set all of those automatically.
- ODP Note: Enter an editor's note here to be automatically filled into
the edit screen when the bookmarklet is executed. The string CAT, if
entered into a note, will be replaced by the
category name that you're working in. For example, if you enter in the
Bookmarkleterator's ODP Note field
Affiliate site, deleting from CAT.
and you use the bookmarklet on an entry in Bookmarks/E/estragon, the note would say
Affiliate site, deleting from Bookmarks/E/estragon.
CAT2 will be replaced with the category name to which the site is being moved, either automatically by the bookmarklet, or which you have typed or selected. So if you enter in the Bookmarkleterator's ODP Note field
Inappropriate for CAT, moving to CAT2.
and you move a site from Bookmarks/E/estragon to Bookmarks/V/vladimir, the note would read
Inappropriate for Bookmarks/E/estragon, moving to Bookmarks/V/vladimir.
- Append to Note: By default, the contents of the ODP Note field above is appended to any note you have already typed in. Uncheck this box if you want the note to overwrite anything typed in instead.
- Move to cat: Enter a category name here to move the entry to that
cat.
Both slash-separated (Shopping/Video_Games) or colon-separated (Shopping: Video Games) formats are accepted.
- Clear Date: Check this box to automatically clear any entry from the
date field.
- Action: Choose one of the action buttons to select that action. The
"Move/Keep Unreviewed" option will keep it in the unreviewed area if
it's currently there, or move it to the unreviewed area if it's
currently in the directory.
- Autoclick: If you choose one of the 'Autoclick' options, then the
bookmarklet will automatically process the changes as if you had hit the
'Update+Back' or 'Update+Next' button. You will not get a chance to
review changes so please use this option carefully.
- Bookmarklet Name: Specify a name of your choice. Most (but not all)
browsers will file the bookmarklet under this name when you add it to your
bookmarks or favorites.
Sample Generated Bookmarklets
Right-click on these links and 'Bookmark This Link (or
'Add Bookmark' or 'Add to Favorites')
to try out sample bookmarklets created by the Bookmarkleterator.
These are also useful tests should you have a problem with your bookmarklets.
Any browser that cannot run these bookmarklets will likely have problems with
others generated by the Bookmarkleterator. As with any bookmarklet, right-click on the links below and select 'Add Bookmark' or 'Add to Favorites...'.
- One-click Affiliate Nuker - adds a note 'Affiliate site, not listing in CAT.', deletes the site, and does an Update+Back to return you to the unreviewed list.
- Speed Date Clearer - Clears the date, adds a note 'Removing date entry in CAT.', and does an Update+Next so you can quickly fix a batch of inappropriate dates.
- Move to Espaņol - Adds a note 'Spanish-language site submitted to CAT, sending to World/Espaņol for review.', checks the 'Keep in Unreviewed' box, and enters World/Espaņol in
the "Move to cat:" field. It doesn't autoclick, giving you a chance to add
- Move for Review
- To use this bookmarklet, select or type the category to move an entry to, then activate the bookmarklet. It will add a note 'submitted to CAT, moving to CAT2 for review' (filling in the appropriate cats), checks the 'Keep in Unreviewed' box, and clicks the Update+Next button.
Bugs and Limitations
- You can't use double quotes
in your notes - the Bookmarkleterator will turn them into single quotes.
- The Bookmarkleterator has so far only been tested on Netscape 4.7 (Linux and Windows) and
Internet Explorer 5 (Windows).
